Your first time buying land?


Here are seven steps to bear in mind in order to acquire a valid title (ownership) to the land you are interested in owning:


1. Engage the services of a registered surveyor for the purpose of charting the land. This entails a visit to the land. 

2. Conduct a search on the title of the land or engage a lawyer to do so on your behalf. The searches to be conducted depend on the available title documents of the land to be purchased. 

3. Engage the services of a lawyer to guide you through the entire process and to prepare the necessary documents covering the entire transaction.

4. Get from the seller all the required information requested for by your lawyer for the purpose of preparing documents that will protect your rights and interests on the land, effectively. 

5. After the execution of the contract of sale and before the execution of the deed of assignment, carry out an act of ownership on the land. 

6. Get your surveyor to prepare your survey plan either before or after the deed of assignment is executed. Ideally? Before the preparation and execution of the deed of assignment. 

7. Perfect your title to the land.
